  1. IPv6 MX DNS

DigitalOcean DNS - IPv6 MX Records

This is my configuration for a Twitter-specific mail server I run in the London DO DC.

    MX twitter.maxsaxedesign.co.uk 138.68.162.84
    MX twitter.maxsaxedesign.co.uk tw.mail.maxsaxedesign.co.uk
    AAAA twitter.maxsaxedesign.co.uk 2a03:b0c0:d0::146:e001
    AAAA tw.mail.maxsaxedesign.co.uk 2a03:b0c0:d0::146:e001
    A twitter.maxsaxedesign.co.uk 178.62.121.41
    A tw.mail.maxsaxedesign.co.uk 138.68.162.84

I am unable to configure IPv6 MX records on DigitalOcean DNS and Fasthosts DNS (need to pester them too).

I have found a way round the issue.
Point the MX to a subdomain which has A and AAAA records tied to the subdomain. This way it will be forwarded for the MX to use.

    MX > A > IPv4 address …

    • Bring Back Horizon io - Rethink DB one click image

Rethink DB / Horizon io made is excessively simple for me to develop with web sockets. Unfortunately when rethink turned open source, Digital ocean dropped their support of the product.

      • Support with Docker Cloud Swarm mode

Docker Cloud (https://cloud.docker.com) has started to roll out their new Swarm mode capabilities. We have been using their standard mode, with Digital Ocean as provider. However with the new Swarm mode the cloud providers are limited to AWS (and Azure coming soon), and Digital Ocean is not in this list. I would really not want to change from Digital Ocean, and hope that Docker Cloud are building on that as well, but I cannot see any progress on that from their side. Is it aware from your side that you are not in their list of cloud providers…

        • DNS subdomain delegation to a different team account/project

          Following use case:
          1. we have an production environment running an API at api.example.com, only some devops have access and api.example.com is defined in teamproject1
          2. we have a staging environment in teamproject2 with more devops having access rights and the domain ist stage.api.example.com.
          3. we manage both environments with terraform and ansible including domains.
          4. we need a subdomain delegation for *.stage.api.example.com from teamproject1 to teamproject2

What could be done? Allow Subdomain delegation:

          1. create NS Records with ns1..3.do.com in teamproject1 for stage.api.example.com
          2. create rewquired ressource records in teamproject2 (A, MX , SRV, .....)

          Result at this moment: …

          • The droplet images should have extended descriptions of what each image offers.

On the droplet set up page, there should be an extended description for what each image contains. There's a lot of abbreviations for things and they're not all obvious.

            • Add automatic DNS CNAME flattening for root domain

              Current situation:
If I enter my root domain into the "hostname" field I'm only allowed to create entries such as A, AAAAA, MX etc. but not CNAME.

              Wanted situation:
I can create a CNAME entry with my root domain and this will be flattened automatically, like Cloudflare does (https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200169056-CNAME-Flattening-RFC-compliant-support-for-CNAME-at-the-root)

              • update domain copy javascript link

Just a little UI thing. I love that you guys have the "copy" buttons for putting stuff in to my clipboard. On the Domain management page it has the the copy button for the nameservers but copies the period (.) in as well. Should copy a . after my TLD

                  • Increase the $5 server to include 1GB of ram

Tried to install plesk on a 512MB ram and it corrupted. Also most competitors offer 1GB at starting price. Very happy with the service do not wish to change provider because of something this stupid and straightforward.

                        • Load balancer HTTPS health checks

The health check does not support HTTPS.

The load balancer health check supports TCP ports and HTTP service but not HTTPS.

In my case, all http traffic is denied or redirected with a 301 to HTTPS, so the load balancer always gets a 301 and assumes the server is okay even if the HTTPS request responds with a 500.

i used to create same droplet specs and run stress testing one by one to measure which center would be faster to my country. it would be great addition if you developed a new service to show performance at any moment from all your centers responses.

                                    Hello Digital Ocean Team,
how can I block all IPs from www.digitalocean.com that access my website http://www.reiseberichte.bplaced.net ?
I have a .htaccess file but seems like it is not working how it should be. I am not an expert and can only add the IPs which I see on my stat counter, looks like

                                    # Digital Ocean

After trying to request for a new volume this is the response I get from Digital Ocean.

                                          Hi Christian,

Thank you for the feedback. Striking a balance between usability and preventing abuse is important to us. We are taking your feedback under review to determine where we can make improvements in our product and processes.

                                          Thank you again.

                                        • BitCoin Blockchain node with user containers on top of it to access Blockchain in read-only mode.

Can you host a BitCoin Blockchain node and on top of that node provide regular VM containers that would let the users have access to underlying host Blockchain FS as read-only and can write scripts or play with the blockchain.

This means that each individual user do not have to have a decided expensive VM for blockchain and it will be less resource intensive to Digital Ocean since only one host bandwidth will be utilised.

I will willing to subscribe to this with a $5 VM. Thanks.
