There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Keep Arch Linux on DigitalOcean

    Hi all,

I really love Arch Linux so much, but DO is trying to move that out. I hope that you guys can try to vote for the fantastic distro to keep it on DO.

The following is the letter that I just wrote to the support ticket.
    ----

I'm very surprised about the maintainability of Arch Linux. Personally, I'm a heavy user of Arch, I do love the distro. Arch Linux is a contemporary minimalist Linux distribution. It provides a very clean, lightweight distribution of the Linux operating system.

While I was trying to launch another Arch server on…

    • DataCenter in Chile

It would be great to have a DC here in Chile. The economy and government is stable.

Also, Google is already building a DC here! https://www.google.com/about/datacenters/inside/locations/quilicura/

      • Improve customer experience during DDOS attacks

Currently if you get a DDOS attack your server loses all internet facing networking ability, effectively cutting off your access to the internet on your droplet. Other providers provide more direct protection rather than just shutting your net down. Such as OVH's technology and approach detailed here: http://www.ovh.com/us/anti-ddos/ I would prefer digital ocean over any other provider based on my experiences, but the DDOS issue is the last remaining concern. If other providers are providing protection to customers rather than just cutting their customers internet, then I believe with all the money digital ocean has they should be able to…

          • Provide the ability to turn backups on or off after a droplet has been created

Currently if a droplet is created without automatic backups enabled, the option to backup that droplet becomes unavailable. This should be something we can turn on and off at any time.

              • Give users IPv6 /64 blocks when you roll out IPv6

As you guys are testing IPv6 in the Singapore region, I highly recommend you give users a /64 each when IPv6 rolls out. This is proper practice, and gives users more flexibility in terms of address selection.

                  • Reserve IP Addresses / Make sure we can keep an IP if we recreate a droplet.

When destroying a droplet there's a 99% chance that you will get your IP back. If someone creates a droplet while destroying/creating a new one and steals your IP, it's a pain, even if the chances are <1%.

This 1% is too much for some. An IP is an important number, your server might not be able to send emails if the last IP's user was sending spam through it.

Software licenses are also tied to IP sometimes.

When I want to rebuild a server (or resize: disk size) I want to make sure that I get my IP back.

Edward, our new Director of Customer On Boarding, has been reaching out to a number of customers to see what we can do improve the service. The request to be able to reserve an IP address came up from many customers, and has also received tremendous support from the community with the number of votes that it received on UserVoice.

As we’ve scaled out the engineering team we have a large number of projects that are currently in traction along with some that we’ve already launched like the new API v2, IPv6, and so forth, but given the huge amount of support for this request, we are going to try and slide this into the roadmap earlier at a higher priority.

For that we’ll be doing some initial testing to see how we can work this into the existing product set, how much engineering time that will take, and see…

                    • Paypal payments with user choosing any amount of credit

Sometimes when you want to put some credit via paypal and you want to put $15 for example, you need to do 2 transactions. When you are dealing with international payment, it can also be charged for the number of transactions you are doing... It is not much indeed, but what would be the problem of having the user type how much he/she wants?

                      • Offer different hardware configurations based on the use case (DB, Storage, Decrypt etc.)

This is a repost of a previous idea (granular, slider-based hardware selection) as suggested by Moisey:

                        http://digitalocean.uservoice.com/forums/136585-digitalocean/suggestions/5097062-replacing-all-droplet-types-by-custom-droplets

"..However, we do believe that there are different workloads that require different servers and hardware. For example caching services need a lot of RAM but not much else, DBs need very fast harddrives and CPU, and then there are cases when you just want a bunch of storage and not much else.

This is an area that we are exploring to see if we can begin provisioning different hardware types sometime in 2014 and testing to see if customers like the ability to…

                        • Custom Droplet Resources

An option for a customized droplet. Your pre-definded droplets are fantastic (we can spin them up instantly, on the same hand you can scale efficiently)

                          BUT

The ability to define custom resources for a droplet would be fantastic...if the price has to be higher that is fine.

At the moment automatic backups are taken 'every few days' (I can't find how many days exactly, but I know it's way too many).

I was having the following idea:
                              - Users pay 1$ per month to enable automatic backups
                              - Depending on their plan, they have a few slots available (you'll unlock additional slots by upgrading to a better plan)
                              - You can choose your own interval (twice a day, once a day, once a week)
                              - If you run out of slots, the oldest backup will be destroyed automatically to make space for a new backup

                              This way…

                                • Display the 'Affected Droplet' in Support Tickets

When a Support Ticket is created, there is the option to select the 'Affected Droplet'. However, once the ticket has been created it does not show what option was selected. Unless the droplet concerned was explicitly mentioned in the body of ticket, there is no way to relate the ticket to a specific droplet.

The support ticket should show (ideally in the ticket overview view), the 'Affected droplet' option that was selected when creating the ticket.

                                    • DNS page Idea: Add current dns entires in the list.

The current DNS page shows all domains and the available actions. To check if a domain is done propagating, or which DNS the domain uses or which CNAME is set, you have to go to each domains. If you have more than 10 ... this can be anoying. Here's what I suggest:

                                      1) Add a "view info" that can shows the information,
                                      2) The inforation shown can be the ns records, cname, etc...
                                      3) and if a domain is not propagated yet, you can see a message like: Zone File - DNS is propagating

                                      • Bitcoin Payment Method

Bitcoin is a Peer to Peer digital currency with worldwide implications. Its value is changing rapidly just like oil did during its early days of adoption.

That aside, it is a new technology and is beginning to be widely used. One of the largest internet company's in China started accepting them, WordPress accepts them and many more are starting to accept them every day.

I don't want to see Digital Ocean lose out on this technology.

I suggest you take a good hard look in the adoption of this new payment system.

                                        • Sell t-shirts because I would totally wear one to work.

I think Digital Ocean should sell t-shirts. Cool logo, and maybe have a referral code word on the shirt so each one is customized. Like hey go to Digital Ocean and put in my name "Casey" for a discount.
