Your feedback drives our design process. Your votes count! Let us know what you want to see from the DigitalOcean cloud.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Provide the ability to turn backups on or off after a droplet has been created

Currently if a droplet is created without automatic backups enabled, the option to backup that droplet becomes unavailable. This should be something we can turn on and off at any time.

    • Make sure we can keep an IP if we recreate a droplet.

When destroying a droplet there's a 99% chance that you will get your IP back. If someone creates a droplet while destroying/creating a new one and steals your IP, it's a pain, even if the chances are <1%.

This 1% is too much for some. An IP is an important number, your server might not be able to send emails if the last IP's user was sending spam through it.

Software licenses are also tied to IP sometimes.

When I want to rebuild a server (or resize: disk size) I want to make sure that I get my IP back.

      • Stop allowing people to use DO droplets for mining digital currencies

CPU Steal time has been high for the last 4 droplets i created (average 15% with spikes up to 50% cpu steal), these droplets are really slow compared to my other droplets with 0-5% cpu steal time.

I'm seeing a lot of people coming over to DO the last few months creating droplets, sometimes 50+ droplets per person, using them to mine digital currencies and use 75-100% cpu 24/7

We agree, we had a certain share model in place that was working great for our developer and business customers but unfortunately it seems it was a bit too lenient for people mining crypto currencies.

Given the tremendous increase in value of Bitcoin this has certainly attracted a lot of people to our platform as well as other cloud providers, but by the same token on the macro scale it has become apparent that a cloud environment isn’t really the best place to mine these coins efficiently as serious miners are deploying GPU based systems for that.

We’ve had to restructure some of our CPU sharing as a result of this and we have been testing the code and it will slowly trickle into production this week which we think will begin to clear this issue up for customers and create a much more fairly balanced CPU share for everyone.

        • GEO DNS Service (visitor goes to the geographically closest droplet)

GEO DNS + Multiple droplets.. is more than AWESOME setup..!!

I'd love to see this service soon in DO, where you can create several droplets in several data centers and point your DNS zones toward these droplet.

Visitors from NY for example get served by NY Droplet(s), Visitors from AMS get served by AMS Droplet(s).

This way, you can build your own CDN within few moments, and get your websites performance-extra-charged.

Invoices must have correct attributes attributes like Firm name, Firm address and VAT number. Currently no one European goverment Tax/revenue department will accept invoices without these attributes.
Dates also can be set to be displayed in EU format DD/MM/YYYY

              • Direct droplet transfer between customers

Transferring droplets via snapshots ( http://digitalocean.uservoice.com/forums/136585-digital-ocean/suggestions/4074426-transfer-droplets-between-users- ) is often a crapshoot due to capacity issues.

Would be nicer to be able to transfer ownership of a running droplet directly!

We’ve started working on this feature to allow customers to transfer snapshots between accounts with no interactions from the support team.

We will be launching this feature next week and announcing it on the blog and via twitter.

                  Thanks!

                • Bitcoin Payment Method

Bitcoin is a Peer to Peer digital currency with worldwide implications. Its value is changing rapidly just like oil did during its early days of adoption.

That aside, it is a new technology and is beginning to be widely used. One of the largest internet company's in China started accepting them, WordPress accepts them and many more are starting to accept them every day.

I don't want to see Digital Ocean lose out on this technology.

I suggest you take a good hard look in the adoption of this new payment system.

                    • Support own operating system images

I just thought about some running votes on this site, like 'please support Windows' or 'please add OS [xyz]'. I can understand that these tasks aren't that easy, because the control panel sometimes requires access to the filesystem of the VM. For example, setting a new root password requires chrooting into the VM environment.

But, why not offer 100% unmanaged servers? I'll count up some facts so you can fully understand what my thoughts are:

-> Each user should be able to upload own ISOs, which then could be mounted via the control panel.
                      -> If a user decides to…

                      • More cores and/or more memory without extra disk space.

Why is it that because we want more memory, we have to have more diskspace? Or more cores equals a lot more diskspace - why? This just isn't logical. We need a mix and match system. Let us choose the amount of disk space separately and charge accordingly.
I, myself, only need 20 Gb or even less of disk, but would like 4 cores and a good sized chunk of memory.
I see others here need much more diskspace. Each has his own requirements.
As it is, you are probably wasting your resources and many users are paying for something…

                          • Make resizing your Droplet also resize your HDD space

Right now resizing your Droplet will leave your HDD space as it is. Make it scale with the RAM when you resize - otherwise we are paying for more than we are getting.

Also, resizing your Droplet does not always mean that we need more RAM, it could be just disk space, so please make it behave in this manner (ACTUALLY resizing to the next plan on ALL of the specs).

                            Thank you for being awesome!

Allow users to be able to create and sell (or redistribute) their snapshot into a marketplace where others can deploy from their account. Maybe put an approval system in to prevent abuse but might be a good idea to help create images/droplets that can be deployed preconfigured.

                                • With the deprication of Arch, is it possible to implement a way to upload custom images?

Allow an image to be mounted and installed into the virtual machine just like any other regular distribution image. I know interfaces and whatnot are handled by your currently available distro spins, so I recommend, since it seems possible, to just include repos of the necessary packages and configurations that could be added to each flavor of Linux and just point people to a wiki page listing all available repos and how to include them (most people who would actually use this feature would already know how to add the repo for their distro of choice.) This feature would be…
